Halal Love Story - A simple and sweet tale!!!
What's it all about?
A tele-film making attempt where the key players involved are bound by their social and religious restrictions but yet sets out to make something that's entertaining and meaningful.
What makes this film good?
- It's concept is interesting. You've seen movies within a movie being made before but what makes it interesting here is that the whole process is bound by constraints and that's been captured quite convincingly
- It strikes an interesting balance between being a satire and yet being realistic. The concepts and thought processes are put forth satirically but they present it through a set of characters and situations that are realistic and relatable.
- There are a whole lot of small threads including the husband-wife love story, the thread of the separated father etc which gels well along with the main plot and gives us some real good scenes and moments in the movie.
- It's well packaged with a bit of humour, good background score, impressive technical elements and the feel-good elements which all together makes for a good viewing
- The performances are real good. Grace Antony,Indrajith,Joju and Sharafudeen are the main ones and play their part to perfection with Indrajith's role being well etched out with different facets and he pulling it off real well.
Aren't there negatives?
The lack of a meaningful story and the fact that it doesn't emotionally stir you like the director's previous attempt might be considered a small negative. But for a film that keeps it simple and clearly has low ambitions, this shouldn't be a major obstacle to a decent viewing experience
What's the summary?
It's a small simple film that wouldn't have been outrightly rejected in a theatre as well. It's definitely a recommended OTT watch that is an 'acceptable' watch and one which shouldn't disappoint you a lot !!!
